So, you’re pregnant. But on what date did you conceive, and how can you know who the father is?
While pinpointing the exact moment of conception isn't an exact science, much like your period, natural rhythms and cycles can help you estimate when you conceived. Need answers now? Chat with a nurse at (319)-519-0072.
What Date Did I Conceive?
Whether you’re 2 or 20 weeks into your pregnancy, there’s some simple math you can perform to confidently know around the time you conceived.
On average, there are two-to-three days when you ovulate – the time when your body can get pregnant – each menstrual cycle. This occurs about two weeks after your last period started.
Conception Date Calculator
By calculating the time since your last period, you can estimate your ovulation window and get a rough idea of when you conceived.
If that math seems tricky, there are free online calculators to assist you, or you can text us for help at (319)-519-0072.
Remember, this is just a rough estimate. Every woman’s menstrual cycle and ovulation window are unique. Some women ovulate longer, while others may ovulate earlier or later in their cycle.
Additionally, having sex before the ovulation window can still result in pregnancy, as sperm can survive up to five days, potentially fertilizing an egg once ovulation occurs.

Conception Date from Ultrasound
Another way to determine the conception date is through an ultrasound. Since fetuses grow at a consistent rate, the age of the fetus can be measured accurately, making an ultrasound a more precise method than an ovulation calculator for estimating conception date.
An ultrasound not only helps determine when you conceived but also confirms the viability of the fetus.
You can have an ultrasound performed at your local OB/GYN office. However, there’s usually paperwork and billing involved. Alternatively, your local pregnancy center may be able to offer a Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound without the need for hospitals or insurance companies to get involved. Informed Choices Medical Clinics serves all patients regardless of ability to pay.
